Hello Fellow Leipheimers
We’ve received 29 responses to our survey. Although it’s a smaller sample than we hoped to get by this time, here is an update on what we’ve learned so far.
1. Location. At the reunion in Omaha, the consensus was that since that one was in the Midwest, the next one needed to be on the East Coast. Washington was selected because of its location – not too far north or south - and tourist attractions, among other things. For those of you suggesting other locations (Williamsburg VA; St. Louis; Florida), you would need to get agreement from the rest of the Leipheim community to change it.
2. Timeframe. The majority of folks who’ve responded to the survey are basically divided between June and August. We’re leaning towards having it in June since it would be a lot cooler as the temperatures become pretty oppressive in August. As we did in Omaha, we’re looking at 4 days - Thursday thru Sunday - and we’ve come up with a couple of proposed dates in late June and early August. Please review and respond with your preference.
21-24 June (Thurs-Sun)
9-12 Aug (Thurs-Sun)
3. Hotel. Bob and Vickie Burt were nice enough to check out some of the hotels in the area and after comparing prices, amenities and other factors we have come to the conclusion that the Hilton Hotel in Greenbelt Maryland would best suit our needs.
Below is a summary of what the hotel offers:
- Rooms will cost $139.00 (plus tax) a night and will include the hospitality room.
- Includes a hot breakfast
- The rooms include a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker plus free Wi-Fi
- Complementary parking
- Indoor (heated) and outdoor pool
- Self-laundry facilities available
- If we have at least 60 people for the banquet, there is no cost for the banquet hall

As of this morning we have 29 responses with 26 of those stating they will attend, for a total of 57 individuals attending.
If you have not responded please do so as soon as possible so that we can determine how many people will be attending and how many rooms will be required so we can block the rooms and get the best rate.
4. Activities. One thought we had on a group activity is renting a bus to take us into D.C. for sightseeing. Some of the sites to see are the Smithsonian Museums; National Zoo; White House; Ford’s Theatre; Pentagon; Arlington Cemetery; etc., all within walking distance or by Metro (train system). One of the best things about D.C. is that most of the attractions are FREE, so we would only have to pay for the tour bus (and food, of course). Baltimore and Annapolis are within an hour’s drive away for those looking for activities outside D.C. If you have any other suggestions on activities, please let us know.
5. Again, we need your responses as soon as possible. You can just send us an email if you don’t wish to fill out the survey. The email address is: Leipheim.RU2012@gmail.com
Hope to hear from you soon!
